I guess I'm just venting

i have a history of drug abuse and have been clean for a while. also leading a healthier life style including exercise and better eating habits. I am a diabetic and I do have a few RELATIVELY minor issues. But I OBSESS over relatively minor symptoms. every single symptom turns into an hour of research. arm gets stiff, oh my god, im having a stroke aaaaaaaaahh. pulse goes up, this is it, im having a heart attack, noone will save me. i dont know whats worse, the anxiety this causes CONSTANTLY or the Obsessing i do over all this. and the only reason i dont go nuts seeing doctors repeatedly is cause i feel ashamed of being this way. i just dont know, where is that line? between reasonable concern due to my issues and hypochondria? in a sense it is reasonable but now it NEVER GOES AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what to do!?!?

Re: I guess I'm just venting

How wonderful that you're clean and sober, that's great!!
I guess being "reasonable" about one's health means that if something is wrong and you are concerned, you go to the doctor and get comfort from what they tell you. When you say that you "obsess" and your anxiety is "constant"..obviously this is not ideal or balanced or "reasonable". The internet is such a double edged sword. We can scare ourselves silly looking up symptoms. On the other hand, they can save our lives.
My advice is to stay clean and sober, keep eating more healthfully, and start weight training or running for exercise. That way when you focus on your body it can be with more enjoyable motives than making yourself crazy when your imagination runs away with you. You will begin to associate a raised heartbeat, etc, with getting healthy, rather than being worried.
