in need of hysterectomy info...help....!! - Hysterectomy Message Board

i've already posted that i have CIN III/ carcinoma in situ. i'm opting for the hysterectomy over conization. I've heard mixed opinions on life after hysterectomy. Can anyone give me some insight? This is really something I have to do to for my health, what can I expect? Thanks, michelle

Since I am not familiar with the type of problem you are experiencing, I have a question.

Are you going to have a partial or full hysterectomy?

I had a partial done when I was 24. I still have my ovaries so I am not experiencing hormone trouble. That was my primary concern when they said that I had cancer and needed to undergo a hysterectomy. With the partial, I have had no ill effects and feel much better. The recovery time was reminiscient of the post-partum recovery periods I went through with each of my three children.

Another question...are you going to have your hysterectomy done by pelvic incision or vaginally? I have heard mixed reports about each of them. Mine was done vaginally and I again felt as I did after having my children.

they said they will do the procedure vaginally, and they're going to remove the uterus and cervex. keeping my ovaries. i appreciate your response, i'm totally freaked out about the whole thing. i have 1 child and she's 15 that's the only time i've ever been in the hospital. i had to reschedule for the 29th of this month. wish me luck.

I truly do wish you all the luck in the world. Try not to worry too much about it. I know, easier said than done. However, just focus on the fact that once this is done you will feel much better.

Life after a hysterectomy is actually quite liberating for me. I no longer have to worry about the monthly discomfort and inconvenience of a period. I don't suffer from PMS. I don't have to stress over whether or not I could possibly be pregnant. So, as you can see...there are some definite upsides to it!

I had Uterine Cancer, and had a total Hysterectomy. My doctor told me that he could guarantee, in ten years or less, my ovaries would need to be removed also. That was in 1989. Put it like this, Hysterectomy was the best thing I ever had done. I had everything taken out. I was up the next day, It was draining at first, and if you have a supportive family that makes a big difference. The Menopausal symptoms, you will get anyway whether it is sooner or later. You get used to them, and take Hormones. Life is much better. I do not think you will have any problems. I beat the Cancer, you can too. Good Luck.
