Re: Hysterectomy and depression
Go in to your doctor and ask to have your hormones checked, this will tell you if your ovary has stopped producing.
You do not say if a general practitioner or a psychiatrist is prescribing your zoloft, but you should consider seeing a good psychiatrist (who are really just M.D.'s who specialize in chemical imbalances of the brain...never knew one who had a "couch" in his office). You may need to have your medication dosage adjusted, or he/she may determine that zoloft is just not the right medication for you and put you on a different type.
Anti-depressants work on different chemical receptors in the brain and there are several. Unfortunately there is no test to tell the doctor which ones you are high or low on...it is trial and error. Sometimes it will take a combination of medications to get you in balance again...it seems like when one receptor is off the body tries to compensate and increases or decreases production of one or more additional receptors to make up for it.
Either way, depression is not something you have to live with. Treatment and medication has improved over the years to the point where no one should have to suffer from this disease. Find a good doctor and move forward with your life.
Good Luck!
