Skin up to naval still numb 3.5 months after total hyster - Hysterectomy Message Board

Hi,

This is my first post in this area, although I had a total hysterectomy (with ovaries removed also) end of March, 2005. Mostly, my thyroid is giving me more problems than the hysterectomy (I have Hashimoto's), and I also have adrenal glands that don't work well. Currently, I take bio-identical hormones for the menopause symptoms, which are severe due to my low thyroid.

The reason I am writing here is to ask if anyone else experienced total numbness of the entire abdominal area, clear up to the naval, after their abdominal hysterectomy? I wasn't told it would be so extensive, but just assume it would go away after awhile. But, it isn't getting any better - I'm wondering if this is normal? I try really hard to ignore it, but it can be really unsettling if I think about it for very long. I'm also wondering if my low thyroid is hindering the nerves in that area to heal properly? I'm taking thyroid hormone, but don't think it's enough yet - still waiting on blood work.

Thanks for your help - I still have a lot of pain, too, but it's the numbness that is unsettling.

hello ora

i had a binkini line incision (april 2005) and still feel numb/fuzzy either side of incision. It tingles from time to time too.

my husband had a liver resection 2 years ago and colon resection 2.5 years agao which left an extensive scarring. he is very numb on right hand side oer his rib area still and we dont expect it to improve now.

i have heard that light massage might help.

Thanks, ktee. I bought some vitamin E oil, and am going to start messaging that in once or twice a day. Don't know if it will help, but it can't hurt!

Sorry about your husband's numbness. I remembered after reading what you wrote that about 20 years ago, (when I was suffering from undiagnosed hypothyroidism), I had my wisdom teeth removed. The area around the upper right tooth was numb for years and years and years. I've noticed since I started taking thyroid hormone 1.5 years ago that the feeling has actually returned to that area!

So, I guess there is hope, for your husband, and for me and you - it just might take longer for some people.

Wisdom teeth .... had mine taken out 20 years ago too ..... we were probably gargling simultaneously. I still get an occassional annoying tingly/itchy feeling in my wisdom sockets and sometimes drives me nus
