hysterectomy recover

Hello,
Wondering if anyone can help? Just had a total vaginal Hysterectomy,1 week ago. Wondering from someone who has gone through it, what is the recovery time. Dont really have any pain, alittle cramping and tired is all. When can I start activities again, such as house work, cooking ,stairs. If I start too soon what are the complications? How about after, did anything change, Physically emotionally?
Read somewhere can still get a mimi p. how can that be? Hoping someone who has been through it can offer some advice Dont have a doc appt for another week, I think though it's more assuring hearing from someone who has been through it. Thanks to anone who can help.

Re: hysterectomy recover

Hi sweety, sounds like things went well for you. Thats always a good sign. I had the cut for my removal. Anyhow not sure why but you will spot for about 6 weeks. I just wore the liners during that time. Since I the cut I had to take it easy for about 6 weeks. It was only the first few days that things were the worse, which was a good thing since I lived alone and had little help from anyone. But was good I only had 2 pets to take care of at that time, and never had children. I was about 34 when I had mine. I am now 49. I take it you ovarys are still intact? They left mine in too but did have to have those removed when I was 43 due to cysts, again another big cut...ugg.
But I would say take it easy for about 3 weeks. It takes longer to heal internally.

All the best to you.

Sandra

Re: hysterectomy recover

Hi dalletto4

Hope you are doing well in your recovery. A total hyst means they took your uterus and cervix so you should not get a miniP. If you still have your cervix then this is called a SubTotal Vag Hyst. The cervix is actually the lower portion of your uterus and is the same organ. Therefore it is still able to bleed during your cycle. i understand that most women dont but can depend on how your cervix was cut and cauterized.

A vaginal hyst is slightly easier to recover from initially but only from the way the operation affects you. You still need to be very carefull for at least the first 6 weeks but ideally you should be able to start doing very lightweight stuff like dusting after 2 weeks and slowly build it up. Be carefull not to stay too long on your feet and keep moving around or walking then resting up afterwards.

dont lift anything heavy and even if it is a light weight be carefull especially if you have to bend down low to pick it up.

take care
ktee

Re: hysterectomy recover

Yep, you may feel like Superwoman, but you're not!

I had a TAH last year. I felt great only one week after the surgery. But I still took it easy...

Even two weeks after surgery is too soon to start doing heavy house work and such. My doctor told me to avoid heavy lifting for as long as 4 months post-op. (Don't want to shake anything loose! )

It's nice that you're doing well!
