New to this board, endo questions

Hello. I just had the laparoscopy surgery done and some of the endo removed. My doctor told my husband (not me, I was in recovery) that I may need a hysterectomy in the future. Has anyone had this done for endo? What is the recovery like? I noticed one of you mentioning being able to keep the ovaries, is there a benefit to this? I am new to being diagnosed with this, so any information would be great.

p.s. Also, I am quite weepy and sad 2 days after surgery, is this normal? Could it be a side effect from the pain killers?

Re: New to this board, endo questions

Hello Rainbowlights, I had two laparoscopies for endometriosis removal a finally a
hysterectomy. With advance technicques today I had it done vaginally with only two
3 centimenter scars and and the one additional again across my belly button and the
recovery was only 4 weeks. As the old fashioned way is 6-8 weeks. I did heel much
quicker. But they did a total hysterectomy taking my ovaries as I was told by a team
two surgeons I had, that with endometriosis it had to be total because of the risk of
cancer. The only rough part of healing for me was lower back pain for along time after
wards. But I found out later that if you just go to a Chiropractor, that can be remedied. Because the Chiropractor told me she had the same problem and it is because it is from tilting you back backward during surgery. But all in all the healing
process doing it vaginally was very simple.

Re: New to this board, endo questions

Hi
Had a hyst everything gone but kept cervix due to Adenomyosis (internal Endo) PCOS, adheasins.
I have to say I am a heck of alot better now...NO REGRETS !!! I realy suffered with alot of pain !!!
I had mine done the old-fashion way....Abdominaly. Mine was done May 9th, 2005.
It takes some time to re-coop but it is worth it, at least for me it has been. I still get tired, but it is a big change for your body.

Re: New to this board, endo questions

Hi, I had a total abdominal hysterectomy which means I had my uterus and cervix removed. I opted to keep my ovaries. I was 40 y/o at the time.

I had endo and adenomyosis and suffered from great pain, excessive and constant bleeding. I had my cervix removed because you can still get a mini-period if it is left and I did not want to risk any kind of bleeding.

It is now over 4 months since it was done and I would say it took me about 6 weeks to get over the major part of the healing process but that I am still recovering from the effects. I still get a swelly belly and I ache if I lift, push or pull anything too heavy. And sometimes I still hit a wall of tiredness but quickly recover.

Hope this helps
ktee

Re: New to this board, endo questions

i am 30 yrs old and had a hyst january of this year. my ovaries were left in and i am regreting it. i have been in so much pain. more than before. i had a ct scan a few months back and sure enough there are two cycst like cells (endo) growing on one of my ovaries. a couple of weeks ago i had an internal ultrasound done and they are steadily growing. the research i have done is that you must take the ovaries out too because they produce the hormone monthly with or without a uterus/period. thats why you dont go through menopause when the ovaries are left in.
i am very upset at my doctor because i went in for a total hyst but when i woke up she said she left them in because they looked "ok".
now i am on morphine pills at home with percocet for breakthrough pain. she wants to put me through a series of lupron shots which is like a bandaid with serious lifetime side affects (for most patients...not all). i am trying to get her to go back in and take my ovaries but she doesnt want to do it. i dont know why.
anyways, i hope you have better luck than i have had and hope some of my rambling on has helped.
