upset

I had a hystertomoy 2 years ago and it was a total. The problem is for the last 6 months I have been in so much pain like im going to have a period and alot of pain. I have seen so many doctors and some told me it is in your head or I don't know where there answers. I was given a lupron shot and it made it worse. Well I just found out that I have part of a ovary and tube still left in me and the lupron should not have been given. Now I have to have surgery again next week because of all this. I have been dealing with endro for over 25 years and thought when I had the hyster it was over boy was I wrong its back because of the incompetant doctors. Im sad, and sometime I get sucidal thoughts and didn't know why I was so depressed and now I know its because of all this. So hopefully I will be a happier person when this is over.
Thank you for just letting me vent.

Re: upset

I'm so sorry for your pain; and perhaps, you might see your doctor for an anti-depressant to help you cope with your still on-going post-hysterectomy. Please talk to someone if you're having such thoughts as suicide.

Have you had an ultrasound of your abdomen to rule out anything else going on with your ovary?

Re: upset

Confused,

I am so glad, however, that they found what was causing all of this. That is the first step in getting better. I, like you, would be beyond irritated at doctors who let me feel the feelings you have been feeling, and probably poo pooed your concerns. I would also be irked at those that left those bits in.

I hope this is just the first step in feeling better. Good luck to you.

Re: upset

Tell them while they are in there getting that tube out, to look around for possible sponges or tools left behind by that last doctor! What a bummer to have that happen.

Now on the suicide thoughts, have you had these thoughts just since that surgery? It's hard to cope when doc's are saying nothings wrong when you know differently! So, if these thoughts HAVE been since that last surgery and all the problems you've had since then, I'ld say you'll feel better about your life once they take out what should of been taken out in the first place. How can a doctor not pay attention to what he is taking out during a surgery...wouldn't a person notice that the tube wasn't there???? Geesh!

Another thing, natural progesterone creams help our feeling of well being, you can't take it forever or anything, but a couple months of it would certainly help your frame of mind and get you though this rough emotional stuff. It takes a good month of putting the cream on to take affect, so you have to stick with it. You just put a bit of it on your tummy.

Now that you've found out that 'its not all in your head'! Did your thoughts of suicide subside? I hope so. Best wishes, Diana

Re: upset

Dear confused

Welcome to the boards...... i hope you find some comfort from the posts here. There are loads of women (and men too !!! ) who can share their experiences and try and help.

Your surgeon sure did a lousy job of explaining the mechanics of your hysterectomy. If you went in expecting a total hysterectomy and they did more than that without telling you (removal of an ovary is not part of a total hysterectomy, ovary removal is called oopherectomy), then you have a good case for hiring a lawyer i think.

I would also like to say that any doctor that ignores or downplays a patient's pain should be struck off. There are many many reasons for pain and dismissing it in this way is totally out of order.

Regarding your pain.
1)Feeling like you were having a period may be related to your remaining ovary. You may still be ovulating (I pressume this is why they gave you lupron) and some women do experience pain during ovulation.
2)Another common cause for pain after an operation is from adhesions. This is where bits of your insides stick together and can pull and tug in the wrong places. If adhesions are suspected they should be investigated further to ensure that nothing is getting twisted or obstructed. I know that sounds scarry but it is easy to check out.
3) Endo can survive a hysterectomy and especially if you have one or both ovaries intact. Any existing endo can also fire up with the wrong type of hormones often related to hrt. They should be able to take a look using a laparoscope and remove any endo at the same time. This is less invasive than removing an ovary.

I think i have rambled on enought by now. I hope your spirits have been lifted with the kind support of previous posters. We all wish you well.

regards
ktee
