Confused and frustrated

I am at my wits end and desperate for some advice from someone who has been there. I am 45 and have been bleeding pretty much nonstop for about 2 years. I had an IUD inserted after having anemia for several months and not knowing why I couldn't walk from the commode to the shower without breathing like I had run a marathon! This was in January, 05. I was told to be patient, that the bleeding would stop. It has decreased in flow, but I still bleed almost every day! There are times when I might go for 3-4 days and not bleed, and think, wow! I'm going to be ok! and then I start again.
I am considering ablation or hysterectomy. The way I feel right now I just want rid of this!
Is there anyone out there who would have any type of advice? It would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I am 51 and have been going thru pretty much the same thing . I am wondering if it will ever stop too. From what I read there are alot of us with the same problem out there. I have been reading all I can on this situation and also am interested in what everyone else does.

Re: Confused and frustrated

I'm 32 and had all the same problems you both are having. I saw my doctor in august and he gave me the choice to have a ablation or a partial cervical hysterectomy I talked it over with my husband and we decided to try the ablation, when I called my Doc with the decsion he told me " I dont think the ablation will really help, but we can try, just know you will probably be back for a Hysteretomy. So three weeks ago I had the hysterectomy still healing but glad I did it. My advise would be to do the hysterectomy but not a full one unless the doc truely thinks you will benefit from it. I kept my right overy and my cervix they both looked good when the doc got in. Also by doing a partial the way I did they make 3 small incisions instead of cutting acroos the stomach. I also had them fix my bladder, after having 4 boys it really need to be fixed.

Thumbs up Confused and frustrated

Glad you're doing ok...so what made you change your mind about ablation when you had it made up? My husband and I have agreed to try ablation first, but my doc said the same thing as yours last time I was in...I know the doc is going to argue about me wanting to keep my cervix (wants to know why) but we agree on keeping my ovaries...I just want rid of the bleedin' thing!
Have you noticed any mood changes or anything bad, cause it's so nice to hear something GOOD for a change about a hysterectomy.

Re: Confused and frustrated

Donna, My doctor was the one who recommended that I keep my cervix, he calims that research shows that the younger you are & have a hyst that involves taking your cervix the greater chance is that in the future everything else will start to fall down and out. I also asked a doctor friend of mine and she agreed. As far as mood swings or anything else, I have noticed some hot flashes every now and again and a little moody right now. The doctor said he would put me on a estrogen patch or I can wait it out cause it really is due to my right overy having to take everything on its self right now. He feels strongly that this will end soon. Please write back with any other questions that I may be able to help you with. Also if I had to do it all over again I would!!!! Good luck and let me know the out come of whatever your desicion is. JEN
