I posted just about a month ago needing to hear positive stories about hysterectomies...I appreciate all the input...went to the gyno this week...all set to have a hysterectomy...so we talked about Novacare ablation again...I said I'd try anything to avoid surgery...well, after the physical exam he discovered (also after checking further back into my record) that I had fibroids and an ablation wouldn't work for me...

So as of the 16th, I'm going for the big one!

Total hysterectomy...wanted to keep my cervix but have had some dysplasia and was also informed that fibroids could form on my cervix...I am so done with the bleeding, so I said take it all. I hope I'm not making a mistake, but I feel like quality of life has to figure in here somewhere...

PS...has anyone noticed any difference in their sex life after removal of the cervix?

I had my cervix removed along with the uterus on nov 7th. I occasionally would have pain if intercourse was too deep and he would hit my cervix. Glad its gone.

I know this isn't what you were asking about, but did you ever consider a Uterine Arterial Embolization? It's used as an alternative to hysterectomy in the case of fibroids to shrink the fibroids (which is supposed to solve the bleeding problem).

Hi Donna. Good luck on your surgery! I hope you'll feel a lot better when you start to recover. I had a total hyst. this past monday and am still feeling rather poorly, but that's to be expected.

I had ovarian cysts, endometriosis, adhesions, my uterus was completely flipped out of place and plastered against my bladder! YUCK! (I saw the picture...talk about nauseating)

But everyone I know who has had this surgery says they feel SO much better down the line. I hope we'll both feel human again. I know how it feels to live with chronic pain. I surely emphatize with you and wish you the best of luck!
