Fibro and hysterectomy - Hysterectomy Message Board

I am scheduled for a total abdominal hysterectomy on Wednesday, May 16. Has anyone had this and has it negatively impacted your fibro? I am a little nervous about the 6 week recuperation period and if this will exacerbate the pain and fatigue I already have. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Kathy:
I had a vaginal hysterectomy/ooferectomy about 5 years ago. I did not have any backlash from the surgery, and the procedure helped my health. I was struggling with horrible periomenopause symptoms/fibroid tumors that caused me to have extended periods several times a month. In other words, I was OTP all the time, so I was very anemic.

hi kathy,
well you are in hospital today recovering from surgery. do all that you are required to do and you will do well. be sure to stand up straight all the time. also massage the incision to protect against cheloids (sp?). scar tissue beneath the skin.
i just had surgery 3 weeks ago. vaginal repair to rectum and bladder. with no uterus or cervix to lean on for 23 years they got tired and fell down. i am healing great and fibro was actually very kind in staying small.
i hope all goes well and you are able to post again to us soon and let us know how you are feeling.
