Anyone else have to wait two weeks before riding in car? - Hysterectomy Message Board

My doctor's discharge instructions were that I could start taking short
car rides after the 2nd week. This means no driving myself nor even riding
in a car. Guess they want us to heal inside completely. My surgery was done
by lap.

I am 6 days post-op and biting at the bit to get out. I;ve sat outside in the carport and walked around the yard, but can't see what riding in a car would hurt as long as I had a pillow in front of me.

What were your post discharge instructions?

I did some walking...slowly, went in the car only when needed too, did not drive myself for 2-3 weeks, no lifting and got rest. But you have to walk..it is important to help with the healing process also helps with the gas issue as well as peppermint tea and gas-X That helped too.
I had mine done abdominaly. So I was stappled in my stomache. Did you have everything removed??

I'm having no trouble with gas pains whatsoever. I bought Gas-X just in case but never had to use any.

Yes, I had everything removed. Did you? Now wondering about hot flashes, etc. Actually, I've been chilled, then feel hot. Thought maybe I had a touch of a virus or something. Not much of an appetite today.

My local hospital only does the abdominal cut with staples and I opted to go to a hospital 125 miles away for the lap hysterectomy. So glad that I did. I feel real good, just scared of overdoing anything. I did some laundry today and hung my sheets out on the line to dry. Beautiful day here in central PA.

My wife had LSH on a Monday. The next Monday was her follow-up and the doctor not only cleared her to travel but to drive. She was well off of other than over the counter pain meds. She was back to work two weeks post-op with the expected tireness but nothing else. Never had or has had any residual problems since then and that was 15 months ago.

Your wife did great. What all was removed with her hysterectomy?
Seems like a real quick recovery to me --which is great.
I have cheated.

Today was one week since my surgery and I wentriding in a car and
did some light grocery shopping. But, I do feel a "pulling
from inside" so since I only get once chance to heal, I want it to work
the first time.

Did your wife go on hormone replacement therapy?
