Smile Itching and dryness after Hysterectomy

I had a total hysterectomy Nov 3, 2008. I had a few problems with my bladder not waking up from the surgery and had to wear the catherer home but I removed it and then went back to the dr and he tests my urine and everything showed fine and he tested it again in two weeks and it show fine; no infections, etc. I still have pain when I urinate but now I have burning, itching and dryness on the outside of my vagina. Has anyone else had this problem and what did they do to resovle it. Thanks.

Yeast may be thriving on the vaginal area. It does not always start out with a redness or rash. Those little critters deals me misery before that stage.

Did you keep your ovaries, or did they take them? hormone imbalance can change the moisture level of the vagina.

They took everything except the dr. left a piece of my cervix. I've been having a few hotflashes but they are starting to cease except for in the middle of the night but I'm having terrible dryness, itching and burning. My skin is also dry.

Re: Itching and dryness after Hysterectomy

It sounds like menopause symptoms, which makes sense since they took your ovaries. Are you on any hormone replacement? You don't have to be, but it is an option. Some women go through menopause without HR.

Yes, they put me on the patch right after surgery and I took an allergic reaction to it by that evening, so they started me on premarin .0625 mg the next morning and that's what I have been taking since and that's seems to be doing fine.

Have you talked with your doctor's office? They may need to adjust your dosage.

Re: Itching and dryness after Hysterectomy

Didn't the doctor put you on some sort of hormone replacement? I mean your body just had a huge shock and I have never heard of a complete hysterectomy without some sort of hormone replacement that will help your system adjust to this. But for the itching...If the itching is just on the outside go to the store and buy some ointment for women..monostat or whatever your store carries for vaginal infections...for you it doesn't go inside but rub the ointment on the outside to give you some relief.
