I was wondering about pain with adenomyosis

Hi I was told last week that I have adenomyosis and that I should think about getting a hysterectomy. I am 25 years old and have 2 great kids. So I am wondering if anyone with adeno. not only had pain while on there periods but also just on a daily bases. I have sharp pain and tugging feelings whenever I move sharply or get up from a sitting position. I don't know if I want to get the surgery just yet but am afraid that there may be some other problem in me my dr. could not see with a ultrasound.

Re: I was wondering about pain with adenomyosis

I had a hysterectomy due to severe stage IV endometriosis, adenomyosis and menorraghia among other issues.
Ultrasounds are not 100 % effective in showing what may be going on internally, which is why the lap procedure is always best in diagnosing the problem. Have you had the lap procedure done?
In my case, I wouldn't change having a hysterectomy for anything in the world because the pain is no longer there. However, the flip side is getting my hormones adjusted to a level where I can control the menopausal symptoms.

I was 33 when I had my hysterectomy and was already in the middle of ovarian failure due to the endo.

Best wishes....

Re: I was wondering about pain with adenomyosis

I too was diagnosed with adenomyosis. I am 2 days post op. I had pain daily for years. In the past 2 years I have bee through many tests and had several diagnosis' none of which helped the pain or swelling of the belly. I had pain that ranged from a tugging or burning sensation to feeling that my insides were being torn out of me. I had an endometrial ablation done 5 years ago which was suppose to be the answer. That obviously did not work. I am 34 but had my children young and felt that I was ready to call it quits with the pain. If you have questions I would be willing to share my experience with you. I think if you are confident that you will not want more children you will enjoy a higher quality of life after hysterectomy. If there is any chance you may want mor children I would suggest looking into alternatives!

Re: I was wondering about pain with adenomyosis

thank you for your help. I had my tubes clamped after I had my last baby, they are my whole world but knew that two was all I ever wanted. If I have the hysterectomy they do not have to take my ovaries. When my dr. did the ultrasound she found that my utirus is twice the reg. size and she found fibroideds all over the inside. I have not yet decided what I want to do about this yet but my family are all planning my hysterctomy already. my mom is talking to her boss about when she can take a month off to come stay with me and my dad is telling my kids that they are going to be spending nights at his house while I am healling. I just feel like I am being pushed you know. my dr. says that she dose not think that any of the meds. or other procedures will help, she thinks that the adeno. is to advanced for these things to help, and seing how menepuas is still about 25 years away I cant live with these symtoms for that amount of time. I am still on the fence about what I will do but reading all these womens storys about how happy they are after making the choice really helpd.

Re: I was wondering about pain with adenomyosis

Sounds like you are ready to make the decision. I know that even today 2 days post op, I feel better than I did on a normal daily basis with adenomyosis. Sounds crazy huh? I too kept my ovaries which I am grateful for since menopause is many years away for me too! Which surgery are they suggesting for you? Vaginal, Laproscopic or abdominal?
