Completed full hysterectomy due to previous cancer 5 years ago. Now was on Vivelle dot patch and new Doctor will not re-prescribe stating cannot due to previous cancer. My body is out of wack and wondering how to control signs of menopause. Recently put on citalopram for anxiety and depression. Should I be taking something else????????
My understanding is that if a woman has had ovarian cancer, that most hormone replacement therapies are not generally recommended (because it can cause any cancer cells, if any are left, to grow). If I were you I'd get a second or third or fourth opinion.
Well, you might be able to do some things to manage the hot flashes. Women dealt with hot flashes for centuries before chemists developed hormones. If you don't get any good advice from your physcian, you might seek a doctor who prescribes medicine from a compounding pharmacy, and/or seek alternative health care (like accupuncture or ancient chinese medicine doctors).
