leave or let them take the cervix?

I am scheduled for a laproscopic hysterectomy this month 5/10. I wanted to keep my cervix. I think it adds to the sexual experience, and I am fond of it. I have also read that it helps with stability of the pelvic floor, or something like that.
My dr. wants to take it because she said she ends up removing them in 50% of the cases eventually. She doesn't believe it adds to the sexual experience as the nerve endings are not in there, and there is risk of cervical cancer and monthly bleeding.
I let her talk me into it removing it, but I am having second thoughts.
If anyone can give me some of their experiences iwth having it removed vs. leaving it in, I would really appreciate it.

Re: leave or let them take the cervix?

My suggestion is that you ask her to do an HPV/DNA test and a colposcopy with an ECC to help you determine if you want to keep the cervix or not.

Yes, the cervix helps stabilize the pelvic floor. Yes, the cervix produces some hormones, even after menopause. The consideration is if you have an unknown HPV infection and/or you have some sort of dysplasia in the cervix (which cannot be sampled during a pap), then you want it taken care of.

Let me know how things go!
