what doctor for connective tissue disorders?

This may not even be the right board for this question...but does anyone know what kind of specialist you see for a connective tissue disorder? after I told my doctor all my symptoms, ranging from joint pain, to muscle aches to muscle spasms and a lot of other things, he said he thought I might have a connective tissue disorder. He did some blood work, which didn't show a whole lot, and then said he is sending me to an endocrinologist. So does that mean he doesn't suspect a CTD anymore? Who would I see for a connective tissue disorder? Thanks!

Re: what doctor for connective tissue disorders?

You would likely start with a Rheumatologist.
Good luck and feel better

Re: what doctor for connective tissue disorders?

Hi, I too have been dx with uncomfirmed connective tissue disorder. Do you have mouth sores, sunsentivity, fatigue? I get calf muscle cramps in my sleep that wake me up in a hurry. I only see a Rheumatologist and recently decided to start on Plaquenil. Good luck

Re: what doctor for connective tissue disorders?

Hello There Rorie,

Just to say I agree with the others on this. Definitely a rheumatologist. I have only ever heard of CTD associated with my own medical condition, lupus. Endocronologists are hormone specialists aren't they?

Best of luck anyway.

Re: what doctor for connective tissue disorders?

Dear Dixzeland,

May I ask you a question? You say you experience calf muscle cramp. Do you have a specific treatment for that or do you do as I do, and try to massage it away?

Mine has been going on for about 6 months now, and it really hurts at times. Do your calves go hard at all?

I have lupus and have had for over 30 years, but this is something that I don't connect with that. I have fibro too. Maybe that has something to do with it, I don't know.

Any help you can give on this is appreciated.

Thanks.

Question Re: what doctor for connective tissue disorders?

Hi,
I have been diagnosed with multiple connective tissue disorders, meaning one hasn't shown dominance over another so far. I see the rheumotologist for this. I have hypothyroidism for which I see an endocrinologist for
On February 22, 2005 I had a ministroke. I also do have mitral valve prolapse. I am now taking plavix to keep the blood platelets from sticking together.
My biggest problem is total exhaustion. I had a colonoscopy 12/18/04, the gall bladder removed 12/15/04, a ministroke 02/22/05 and was rearended in a car accident on 03/10/05. I am just terribly exhausted, but no doctor seems to know why.
I feel I would be able to deal a lot better with things if I just had my energy back.
Is anyone having similar problems? Any help would be appreciated!!
