Two years ago a CAT scan showed a "mass" in my thymus gland. It has been called quite a few things so I am not sure what I should describe it as. After many tests ( PET scan, Nuclear scan, bone marrow biopsy, and actual biopsy of the thymus) it was determined that the mass is benign. My surgeon decided that there was no need to take the entire thymus out, and it is being monitored frequently via CAT scans. My concern is my immune system. If I come in contact with any sick person, I come down with the cold except more severe. I recently had shingles. I also have a nail fungus that will NOT go away despite two rounds of Lamisil. (I'm not sure whether this is related to anything, but I figured I would give all the facts.) Also, my CAT scans show that my spleen is enlarged, and the lymph nodes in my neck are enlarged enough that I can easily feel them. I still have the chest pain that originally brought the attention to my thymus gland. (Although a recent endo-scope found two esophageal ulcers that could be the cause of the pain.) What prompted me to ask these questions is: I had a PPD test four days ago, as everyone who enters the nursing program has to. Two days later the site was red, but not raised. It was read as a negative. But now four days later the site seems slightly more raised and looks more like a rash. It almost looks like ringworm. Could this be because of the ordeal with my thymus gland/immune system? What exactly is the correlation between my thymus gland and immune system? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
