Any ideas?

This may be long, but I'll try to keep it short.

Symptoms started with a burning pain in muscles, like I had been exercising or lifting weights, however, had not been. When this stopped my left wrist swelled to the point that my watch would not fit, no pain. Went to the GP, has several blood tests done - negative, swelling went away. Thought it was a fluke, but then a couple of weeks later, fingers, hands, ankels, feet began to swell and were very painful. Went to another GP in which ANA, Sed-rate, RA, kidney/liver function, diabetes, thyroid tests were all performed. Put on meth pak while waiting for results, while on the 6 day dose all symtoms went away, only to reappear worse, after ending the meds. All blood tests came back NEGATIVE.

Referred to Rheum. who re-did all the blood work, including Hepatitis testing. Again, all tests negative. I've been on prednisone and plaquenil for the past 3 months.

New symptoms now, burning in fingers / ankels as if I've touched a hot stove and burnt the skin. This feeling comes and goes. My left hand / arm has been numb for 2 days.

All of my blood test have been negative. Should I ask for some other type testings? Any ideas? Anyone else experience these types of symptoms?

Re: Any ideas?

I am not sure exactly but there was a case on Mystery Diagnosis that reminds me of some of the things you mentioned. I don't know that it is a match or possible but it is something to check out. Scleroderma. The woman was talking about some joints swelling and they could find no cause after the blood work they had done. Sorry not more help to ya!

Oh my, I have the exact same symptoms. Did they improve eventually..did you get a diagnosis?

My wrist is also swollen (although it's painful) and my left arm+hand is numb and my muscles ache as though I've been working out! My ESR came back normal, but still awaiting other test results.

Have you been tested for Lyme disease, it causes all the symptoms that you mentioned, my son and I have it and have the same symptoms, the burning thing is really weird, I have had it down my leg, my son gets it on his back he freaks out thinking that he is being attacked by fire ants or something, but there is nothing there. My wrist and my left arm are the worst, I have numbness and tingling intermittently in both arms and hands. But severe pain in my left arm/shoulder. I went to a rheumi for 8 years who ran every test in the book every 3-6 months and nothing ever came back pos. except the ANA. which is now neg. after 8 years. of being positve. Plaquenil is a med. that is used to treat lyme also, but steriods suppress the immune system and cause the lyme to attack more. I would suggest ggetting tested for lyme since everything else has come up neg. there are too many meds that rheumis put people on that can make lyme worse. Go on the lyme board and look at the symptoms and post your symptoms over there, we can help you find a good lyme doctor that will either rule it out or treat you for it if you have it. Reg. docs use the Elisa which is 70% inaccurate and too many times people that have lyme are told they don't because this test comes back neg. Sarah
