My son is 18 months old and starting at 11 months it was one sickness after another. It started with a 4 month ear infection with about 8 antibiotics. Finally in April he had tubes put in. Then because of all the antibiotics he got an "internal yeast infection". After 2 weeks it finnally went away. But then he had a bug bite that got infected-used topical atibiotic and that went away in about 10 days. Then...in June my son got MRSA (Staph) where he was in the hospital and had surgury to drain the 2 baseball size abcess that poped up over night. We were released from the hospital but then another yeast infection came. That also took about 2 weeks to go away. Now my son has a mild case of Roder Virus. He hasn't had solid stool since he was born and always seems sick. On top of the Roder Virus he had an eye infection associated with his cold. Now the daycare is telling me that he bairly bites his lip or something and it bleeds alot longer than most kids. He has had blood work to check his blood count and immune system and everything was "normal". The doctor said he was just "unlucky". Am I paranoid or should I get a second opinion?? What should I do???

Sounds like you're being a great mom for continuing to look for answers. It takes lots of time for a full immune workup and it seems like your son needs one. I'd recheck IgA, IgM, IgG (with subclasses) and check vaccine titers to see if they took. Also check NK cells, B cells, T cells and the complement system. Most docs will "challenge" the immune system by testing for pneumonia titers, giving pneumonia vaccine and checking the pneumonia titers again a few weeks later. If the immune system is working well then the pneumonia titers should have a significant increase. If your ped can't do the testing, I'd find an immunologist in your area to do the testing. I just read this question and was curious what the outcome was. When I was reading this, it was very eerie in that it sounds very similar to my son who is 23 months old. He started with his first ear infection at 3 months old and has been sick every since. He has had 2 sets of tubes put in and adenoids removed. He battled MRSA for 7 months. And now is starting ear problems all over again. He just had IGE, IGA & IGG tests and they were normal. I am still waiting on the results for the pneumonia titers and IGG with subclasses. I see that this post was from Aug 2006. I was just curious to see what ended up being the problem.

Realize this is an old post, too! Hopefully her son got diagnosed and is on the road to recovery; however she mentions in addition to the numerous infections is the constant diaherrha, and in another post failure to thrive. I would hope that the doctors would've tested for cystic fibrosis. I know of another parent who recently found out her child had CF after several months of being treated for an immune disorder.
