unsure what ANA indicates
 

hi
i had a positive ANA test (not sure exac number) and wondered what that indicates?
i have osteo and high cortisol and am working on these. i take fish oil (800mg EPA/DHA daily), magnesium and calcium. also take weekly tablet of 50000IU vit D.

my nutritionist says vit D is the way forward, but what else should i be looking at. obviously stress managemenet etc is high on my priority now also, but APART from that what else?? i am otherwise healthy and eat well and walk 3-5miles a day. i am 36yo female with four kids

Would need to know your actual ANA (Anti-Nuclear Antibodies) numbers. Many people have elevated ANA at different times in their life. Unless it is hugely elevated, probably nothing to worry about.

result was 160 no range given. comments said indicative of nonspecific chronic inflammatory condition (??)

You mean l:60? My understanding is that this is in the lower range, even up to l:80 is, I believe, considered lower range, elevated, but lower.

it said 160 not 1:60. not sure of range here in nz

ANA is usually a titer and thus expressed as I indicated, but probably both mean the same thing, no?

Ranges are expressed liked this: 1:40, 1:80, 1:160, 1:320, 1:640, and so on. In other words, they are doubled each time. So it was most likely 1:160.

There is no 1:60. These are ranges in the States, though.

Sometimes a positive ANA could meab nothing. I have read on some sights but if you are having other symptoms it could mean something. But I would speak with your dr or an rheumatologist about the results.
