| statin/fibrate induces auto immune disorder
Has anyone had any experience with statin/fibrage drug combination damage? My mother was in good health, mentally and physically, before the first part of June 2003, when she was stricken with rapid loss of muscle mass, swelling of extremeties, extreme weakness and cognitive impairment. She was hospitalized for two to three weeks, underwent a battery of tests and was diagnosed as having autoimmune disease (AD) Alzheimers and possible rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or lupus. She obviously had a drug-induced AD from a combination of Statin-Fibrate given to her earlier that year as indicated off the record by her treating internist. Nothing in her tests then or since has shown a clear indication of RA, Lupus or any other disease that usually accompany AD. Her ANA has remained high. Some nine (9) doctors since have all said they can't diagnose her problem - two (2) immune suppressing drugs prescribed have had no physical effect to her weakness, etc. but only made her dementia worse. Besides her Alzheimer's drugs (Exelon and Namenda), she is taking more strong meds (having little or no effect) than one person should have to take. We are at our wits end and would hope to hear from others of you with similar problems.
