SIGMD is rare or so I've read but the two times the rheumy tested IFE, IgM, IgG, IgA, the IgM was low and the other two were within normal limits. No discussion ensued about the significance of a low IgM. I read if a pt. has this type of lab result they should be checked the following yr. I had a tetanus shot this past July. I have read that post a tetanus injection (to stimulate immune system) to check Ig levels to see if it increases immunity (?)
As an infant was born jaundice and had severe URI'S that turned into pneumonia. They gave me gamma globulin shots and put me on soy milk. They thought it was an allergy to cows milk. After being put on soy, the URI's cleared.
As a newborn, infant, teen, through adulthood have suseptability to URI's. That fits the profile but its rare so I doubt it. He did'nt test IgE so, not all Ig's were tested.
ps: I think the increase signifies antibody activity, the body is fighting something. I think the IgE relates to skin if I'm not mistaken. IgM converts to other Ig's.
