New here, totally confused......(sure you've heard it before
..For the last 5 years I have gone to the doctor right around this time of year. Throughout the year I feel unwell, I feel good, I feel unwell, etc..you get the picture. Blood tests ALWAYS come back "normal", yet I feel not so good. I feel more than tired, I don't sleep (insomia for many years with no resolution...."there is nothing wrong with you"...), depression (the kind that just shows up...wake up and there it is), brain is dysfunctional, ringing in my ears, travelling achiness in my wrists (one month it is in the left, the next in the right). I think you get the picture. This time that I went I also had an issue with the top joint on my right ring finger. Hurts, tender, swollen, red with a black/blue mark to the left. Brought it up to the doctor. Took a slew of tests...surprised I was left with ANY blood to get home! This was the second time an ANA test was done, but the first time it came back "positive"...RNP antibody was positive. Off I went to my referral rheumatologist appointment, TOTALLY expecting the "I don't know...there's nothing wrong with you..." answer. Well, what I got was...."you have multiple connective tissue disease." On and on with the questions about Lupus. I have NO symptoms (no rash, no fever, nothing), there is NO Lupus in my family... I also don't have chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia (no sore throat, no muscle pain).
I'm confused....my blood work was perfect except for the ANA. There is NO history of diabetes, Lupus, cancer, thyroid abnormalities, arthritis, dental problems, mental problems....seriously...there is NOTHING in my family history. I'm healthy except I feel tired a lot and just an all around feeling of "somethin aint right." I exercise, eat healthy, don't drink/smoke...nothing. So...I don't get it. One joint is painful and now I've got MCTD?? And on top of that the doctor then says "there is nothing to do". HUH?? Then why tell me anything? And why send me to see a rheumatologist?? I'm confused.
BTW, I'm 45, female, had a hysterectomy 10 years ago, two grown healthy boys.
