Sometimes it can mean a connective tissue disorder like Mixed Connective Tissue Disorder, or sometimes Lupus, Sjorgrens, etc. Good luck!

Can any of these mixed connective tissue disorders cause your foot to feel like it's in a vice, with nerve involvement on the whole bottom, with swelling and redness so that it's impossible to wear shoes?

Yes, connective tissue disorders can definitely cause pain in the feet, as well as swelling and redness. Hopefully you have a rheumatologist looking into the possible causes of your symptoms. Is your foot your only symptom?
