Severe incontinence (every 5 minutes)
Hi there, my father (78) has just developed a sever case of incontinence within the last week. Originally he would need to go to the bathroom 5 times a night, but then it went to every 1/2 hour, every 10 minutes, now every 5 minutes! He basically hasn't been sleeping at all and has cancelled all his regular activities because he has to be close to the bathroom. There was no trigger he can recall that started it - he recovered from prostate cancer several years ago - the prostate is fine (exam 3 weeks back), the urine is clear and normal (no uti) - there is some slight tingling at the start, but thats the only thing out of the ordinary besides no control over when it comes. He was on Flowmax and it seemed to get worse fast, he is now on Detrol and no improvement. He has an appointment with a urologist in 3 weeks and even just that long, how do you function on 2 hours of sleep a day at best? Any indication of what it could be? I have come up with overactive bladder, but seems more drastic than that. He has been losing a fair amount of weight over the last couple months even when eating alot (ie, during a cruise). Any sort of cancer it could be related to? Any suggestions - the system is terribly slow for something that impacts life this much - 3 weeks for a specialist and if surgery or anything of the sort, what, another 3-4 weeks at best? He needs answers sooner and will certainly consider paying privately to expedite the situation.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
