I am due to have rectocele and mesh sling surgery at the end of the month. Lately I have been hearing a lot of bad things about the mesh sling. I even received a call from a lawyers office asking if I wanted to sue. I told my doctor about the call and the bad things I heard about the surgery and he just said that he has performed hundreds of these surgeries and everything will be fine. They say that after having the sling surgery you can have severe incontinence problems. I already have that problem and am not sure if I want to go through with it if it will not help me. Has anyone had any problems with this surgery and would you recommend having it? Are there any other ways or surgeries to fix this problem?

I wonder how the lawyer found? out that you were going to have the surgery. That is kind of scary. I am scheduled for sling surgery but not with mesh. The doctor would use pig skin instead. It is not quite as strong as mesh but les likely to cause complications. I am also very hesitant

Rachel,

I had my bladder removed 4 years ago and a neo bladder made.

I have not heard one good thing about the "sling surgery", please re-consider this, before having it done.

My neo "flopped" due to age, etc. etc. and I have to cath to void each time, but it is not a big deal to cath.

Roxy,

Both you and Rachael please do a lot of research on "slings". I had my bladder surgery done by one of the "top" bladder surgeons here in Miami and he said any type or kind of "sling" is another place for cancer to return and does not recommend it, I also had another surgeon opinion and they are in agreement.
