alternatives to mesh/sling for cystocele?

Hi, I am an older woman with a "dropped bladder"-- it is now a grade IV, going past the vaginal introitus. So far I am not incontinent but it is uncomfortable sitting on your bladder (it is like sitting on a small ball) and it just feels like there is something hanging out of my vagina. Up until now it didn't bother me but now it does. the thing is i know alot about the mesh/sling surgical option and it isn't something that sounds very successful. the mesh can cause awful complications - from what I have read, the sling isn't very successful an approach for this problem. I also have a very large fibroid uterus. I have avoided surgery for many years because I am terrified of surgery. i have thought about a pessary but i have heard that it can cause constipation and i have that problem already ( for 30 years); can't go without a laxative. Any suggestions? thanks in advance for your help.

Re: alternatives to mesh/sling for cystocele?

Hi, I also have a cystocele and don't want surgery. I have been using a pessery for about 5 years with no problem of any kind. I take it out daily in the shower and wash it and then re-insert. It has taken care of the problem for me without surgery.

Hi Misty: that is great to know. Perhaps I will investigate the pessary. I really appreciate your response.
