Alternating different formulas? - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

I have a four day old Daughter, and was wondering if it would be harmful to feed her both Enfamil Lipil and Similac Advanced. I have about 30 nursette bottles of each, and the nurse from the hospital said they were the exact same thing.
I read the side labels, and they are both Milk-based formulas, with DHA and ARA. I noticed the Enfamil contained "Milk Proteins".
It would be a waste to discard the formula, but at the same time, I don't want to cause gas, bloating, or diarreha for my baby.

Does anyone know if this is true--the formulas being the same? Has anyone else done this before?

Formulas are all MOSTLY similar. Though they all have different amounts of the nutrients... they will all have the amount needed to pass FDA standards. And usually doctors will say that there is no problem with switching formulas. But you'll have to wait and see how your child reacts. I'd say go through one whole brand and then switch to the other. That way it will be easy to pinpoint if your little one is having problems with a certain brand.

I agree with Kierra, go through one formula and then switch to the other so you know which formula is causing the problem if there is one. I would switch to the one you ultimately want to use last so that you don't keep switching. Keep in mind that it takes 3 days for a baby to adjust to a new formula, so you may not see signs of a problem right away and 3 days later, it could still be formula-related.
