Unhappy What's wrong with her?

For about a week now my DD just can't seem to relax. When on her tummy she is kicking her legs so hard that she almost turns over. When she is on her back she is SCREAMING her head off. She is very gassey but burps really well. It's almost like she is unhappy. She cries until picked up and I can't always pick her up but when I don't I feel horrible because she is so mad she sweats. My family thinks it could be the formula. I had to be put on Soy and so did my neice. Could that be what is wrong? It's like she isn't being fulfilled and if she is digesting the formula well then she is hungry, right? It's so frustrating because I don't know what is wrong and the nurse today said to go ahead and try the Soy. I didn't think it was good to change formulas on them. I mean the crying I know she just wants to be held but why the kicking of the legs?

Re: What's wrong with her?

Could be the formula. It's not great to change constantly, but if you need to you need to.

I would try this though first. Babies go through some major growth spurts where they are hungry seemingly ALL the time. When she's having one of her meltdowns, will she take a bottle? If she does, and I'm not talking half an ounce to make her feel good, but 2-4 ounces or more, then she's hungry. During my kids' growth spurts, they would sometimes go a few days where they ate every hour to two hours, it seemed like they were newborns all over again. They're sleeping on a nice routine then all of a sudden, they are up a few times a night.

Also, I've been told and researched that an infants fussiness peaks at 5-8 weeks old, then will taper off. You could be in the middle of that also.

Drue, my 4 month old just got through one, lasted 3 days, she ate like a super hog. Today she's back to normal.

Hang in there, I know it is SO frustrating.

Re: What's wrong with her?

Try the soy...give it at least three days for her system to get used to it. It really helped DD. While you don't want to be switing formulas every other day, trying two or three different ones won't hurt. And like Larsons said...she may be hungry. I will always be mad at the fact that someone told me with my first, don't always give them a bottle when they cry. I was so paranoid about that...my son was screaming all the time. Then I finally said, screw it, and gave him the bottle...yep, he was hungry.

Re: What's wrong with her?

Milk allergies run in my family as well and both me and my first DD needed to be put on soy. My DD was very similar with the crying, kicking the legs, etc. I think she also spit up a lot (she's 10, so it's hard to remember everything). With this baby, we started her off on soy. It wouldn't hurt to switch. Like the other poster said, you have to give it at least 3 days to know if it's working. You can always switch back or to something else if it doesn't work. Not all soy formulas are the same like not all milk-based formulas are the same. My DD has been on Isomil and Good Start Supreme Soy. She has done really well on the Isomil, but the Good Start constipated her (not just pushing hard, but actually not pooping for days and then having really hard stool) and gave her tummy aches.

Re: What's wrong with her?

Well, the formula she is on now is Nestle Good Start and it has been constipating her as well. I mean pushing until I think she is going to pop a blood vessel and then just a little poop. I am trying Isomil today. I sure hope this works. I just want my baby girl to be happy and if she's happy I'm happy
