Tummy time? - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

Hi everyone! Just wondering how early a person should start giving a baby tummy time? My son is three weeks and although he can hold his head up not too bad on my shoulder, it's alot harder for him on the ground. I'm worried about his little face hitting the floor. When did you guys start?

I think ds was around 2 weeks when we started. we do tummy time on my bed, so his face can't hit the floor. I let him be the judge on how long we did it for. He would let me know when he had enough. There little necks do tire quickly so you should start out with just a minute or two at a time. Watch his behavior, he'll let you know when it's time to stop.

Thanx Karen. That sounded awful I know after I read it. I should have clarified that he's on some cushy blankets and not on the hard floor.

Still looks painful to me. I'll keep trying with him then!

HI there
My ds is almost 11 weeks old and we started doing tummy time at 9-10weeks. He's finally starting to lift his head up..but right after he's done that for about 30 seconds he's done and he sure lets us know by his crying!

He really doesn't like this and i have a hard time doing it because he cries but i know that it needs to be done as i've read that this gets the baby ready to crawl and helps him develop? I put him on his tummy about 3 times a day for only a minute at a time in his crib..I know it's not much but it's working!

I was told to give my daughter tummy time when he ombilical cord had fallen off.
