Q about gas drops - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

Does anybody know...

I notice most of my daughter's stomach and intestinal rumbling occurs halfway between feedings. The pattern cycles like this...eat...1 hour later is rumbling & crying...1 hour later we eat...1 hour later more rumbling & crying, and so on.

Should I be giving her the gas drops while she's eating & not rumbling, more as a preventative...or do I give her the gas drops during the rumbling? Much of the rumbling is down in her intestines. Thanks,

I would say give it at feedings to prevent the rumblings in the first place. I would think the gas drops would hace a lot of "catching up" to do if you wait until the rumbling starts way down in the bowels.

Is she a newborn? Are you nursing? Are you scheduling her feedings or feeding on demand? She may be crying after one hour because she wants to nurse again. Newborns feed very often so make sure you feed on demand. Also it is normal to hear some grumbling of the tummy as it digests. I have heard it in both of my children.

Thanks for the info. Mom22greatkids...she is 4 weeks old and I am BF. I am feeding her on demand, and she wants to eat every 2 hours on her own like clockwork...so it's her own schedule. There are a few episodes here & there where she deviates...but you can count on that 2 hour window about 95% of the time.

I would give them and see if it helps. The medicine isn't absorbed into their body so it can't hurt either way.Also you may want to check to see if something in your diet may be giving it to her. I ate beans and rice yesterday and poor DD had gas all night.
