Any advice for Vaccinations. - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

My DD is beginning her vacc. on Wednesday. How many shots should I be anticipating? Also, should I expect a fever after and how long does it last? Should I give her Tylenol before hand? Also, how much pain will she be in?

Is this your babies first time? How old is she? For my son's first set of shots he only received one shot which was for Hepatitis B. For his next round he got 4.

If it is her first time then it's not bad at all. She shouldn't get a fever or be in much pain if it's just the Hepatitis. The sight of the injection can sometimes get sore, and warm compresses help.

I wouldn't give her Tylenol before hand for the first time. Now that my sons received shots and I know his reactions I give him Tylenol before hand.

DS had three shots his first time out. He actually never needed the Tylenol at all. No visable pain or fever. He had a tiny bit of watery stool but nothing major. The worst thing with him is that he slept alot and a very deep sleep. That was the scariest part since he was very hard to wake up. I checked him at night quite a few more times then usual. Other than drowsiness, he didn't have any of the other side effects. Good luck!

My DS had his shots a few weeks ago, and he recieved three (but one had to in the one)

He got vaccinated for:

-Diphtheria Tetanus & Pertussis (2 in 1)
-Haemophilus Influenzae Type B (HIB)
-Hepatitis B
-Pneumococcal Conjugate

The nurse came in, and she prepped him...I could barely watch! But before I knewo it, it was over....he screamed a bit, but was out in the car. When we got home, he got a slight fever, and he started to pretty much cry uncontrolably all night. It was scary, as my lil' one hardly ever screams like that. Anyways, we gave him tylenol, and tried to comfort him the best we could. The next day he was back to normal

The doc gave up sheets on all of the vaccines, and we were told what to look for. Side effects are very rare, but it's nice to know what is normal and what isn't.

My 2 mon. old dd just got her shots today. She got 4 shots, the same vaccines listed in previous post. She did scream when getting the injection but I think it hurt me more than it did her as she was smiling again right after I picked her up. I did give her .4 mil of baby tylenol right after as the nurse said it is better than waiting till the shots begin to hurt. She got them 6 hours ago and is yet to show fever or any other symptoms other than fighting sleep a bit.
