Foot Prints and Hand Prints - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

I would like to do some foot and hand prints of my little guy. I have no idea what to use! Is there a special type of paint? Also, where do you buy it?

I have done this just this week using a "kit" that some friends bought for me from Target. It is two Winnie the Pooh themed frames tied together with ribbon. It came with some decent quality paper and a non-toxic ink pad with which to make the prints. Hope this helps!

Here's a tip though: if your baby is in the least bit squirmy, try making the prints when he/she is asleep. Ours was having no part of staying still while she was awake, but we inked her hands and feet after she fell asleep and it worked like a charm.

I found clay kits that I like better than the paint or ink. I think I saw them at Babies R Us too but I bought mine at JoAnn's. If they wiggle, you can just smooth it out and do it again. The one I bought has the clay in the one frame and a frame for a 5x7 picture attached to it. You can also use non-toxic acrylic paint, but brush it on with a paint brush instead of dipping it, it will come out better. They also sell washable non-toxic ink pads that work better than paint. I was told to put lotion on their hands and feet first to make it easier to wash off when you're finished. With the ink and paint, I did them on a separate card so I could put the best ones in the scrapbook, frames, etc.

Hi! We used just simple poster-paint and cleaned it off her hands and feet using a baby wipe. We dabbed it on with cotton wool and then pressed her foot / hand against some paper wrapped round a book. It was quite easy to do her foot but her hand was tough...try getting a two month old to open out all their fingers...sheesh! We finally managed to do it whilst she was feeding, but it's a really good idea to do it whilst the baby is asleep, I wish I'd thought of that!
