Fussy baby but LOVES bath - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

I am a mother to a very fussy baby. She cries alot especially in the evening. But when i put her in the bath, she is a completely different kid. Then when i take her out shes back to screaming again. Why is this? She will be 9 weeks tomorrow.

Also, has anyone used gripe water and did it work?

Sounds to me like she may be colicy. I have tried gripewater and it worked for me.

Sounds like the bath really calms her down. She's probably screaming because she either doesn't want to get out or she's cold (probably both)

Is she nursing or bottle fed? Maybe look into your diet or the formula she's using. Ask your Ped. Soy formula worked well with my daughter.

She may also be over tired at the end of the day. Is she getting over stimulated during the day? It can make it harder for them to fall or stay alseep. We as parents try to do so much to help them get a head start as a baby, but sometimes it's too much.

I hope that she settles down soon. DS was such a difficult baby, I know how hard it is when they cry and fuss a lot. You learn lots of tricks! We played James Brown non stop because that was all that stopped his crying!

Kiera - W have tried different formulas and that didn't help. Then the dr. said maybe reflux but that medicine doesn't stop the crying either. During the night she is fine thhough. She sleeeps 4-5 hours has a bottle and goes right back 2 bed. I am now going to give the gripe water a try. How long did it take to see a change?

Maybe being in the bath reminds her of being in your stomach. And this brings comfort to her. I know it is a little far fetched to some people but my DS loved the tub and he also was fussy. But for 9 months they are in your stomach and being out is so different. From the way it sounds, I don't think your baby has colic. I would really recommned the book, The Happiest Baby on the Block. I got it after 3 weeks of DS being so fussy and it really helped. The book teaches you how to recreate the feeling of being in your stomach for your baby. And how for the first three months they want this feeling.

My baby loves his baths as well. He looks so relaxed with his eyes closed as I wash him. I think it does remind him of being in my stomach. My baby fusses during the day but he's okay at night. I just wanted to chime in about the love of baths. Good luck with your baby, I am so happy I don't have any serious crying problems with mine. I would go nutts!
