My right breast is hurting me so bad. My baby has no problem sucking, actually, he sucks extremely hard. I need to give this breast a break without affecting the milk supply. I don't even know, maybe it is infected. I know I am latching him on properly because the skin is not broken or cracked and the other breast is fine. I did have problems when I first had him. My nipples were so cracked and the right was the worst. Someone told me to be careful of that one because it could get a clogged duct. I have no idea if I have one or not, I don't feel any hard spots after he feeds. If I do, I compress really well. Help me give my breasts a rest!

Sounds like a plugged duct to me. The only way to clear it up is to have him nurse on it and warm compresses. I used to heat a wet washcloth in the microwave and put it on the area right before I would feed. Then I would hold my breath while he latched on becasue it hurt so badly. I used the warm compress like once an hour or so.

Other times when I had pain, I noticed a cut under the nipple from his teeth. I had to wait for the cut to heal before the pain went away. Very terrible time.

Either time it took a couple to a few days to go away and then I was fine.

I agree with Rouge. If you are having pain something is wrong. I'm not sure if your baby has teeth or not but I am feeding my 9 month old (with teeth) 3 times a day and I have had to go back to using Lanolin. He doesn't bite me (usually) but the teeth still rub and they can be sore. So I would suggest what Rouge said and using Lanolin.

Just be careful and watch for hard spots in your breasts, soreness, and red marks/streaks on the skin on your breasts.

Just speaking from a recent experience in recovering from a nasty case of mastitis (an infection that results from a clogged duct). I didn't pay attention to the signs and ended up being laid up with a general infection, severe chills, 102 degree fever, sore/achy feeling, the works. It was horrid, especially when you have a baby to take care of at the same time.

...and the doctor told me I could have prevented it by taking care of the clogged duct before it became infected. Egads!

Try taking a really long hot shower, and massage that breast. It took me a couple of days, but it beats getting mastitis!
