hey all, is it normal if you overfeed a baby that they throw up, my ds just threw up for the first time since being born, he is 4 months old and we started him on food. I was originally told to feed him food first, then formula or breastmilk. But since he won't eat much milk after eating food, I called the doctor, spoke to another doctor and he told me to give him breastmilk or formula first, then if still hungry to give him food. so that is what I did, he guzzled 6 oz, which is also a first, then ate half of the food he normally eats. then bout ten minutes later he vomited, and has been fine ever since. is this normal? thanks

He may not be ready for food yet. Some babies just can't handle it at 4mo. They say 4-6 mo, but that's just a general guideline. A lot of babies guts aren't fully developed to the point of digesting foods yet. Try scaling back the food and sticking to breastmilk/formula for a bit longer.

he has been on regular food for 2 wks now, and has had 3 different veggies, I don't think it is he is not ready, if today was the first day I gave him the food, then I would agree with you, but its been awhile, but like I said I would give him food, then the milk, but now am going for milk first, then food, but I think he just ate too much, no other signs of illness, and has been fine ever since. Thanks for the thoughts though.

4 months is a little early, but it sounds like he just ate too much. When ds spits up ( he never used to) it's usually because he's more active now, and moves so much, it just comes out!

Maybe try giving a little less formula to start with and offer some more afterwards. That is what I did wy my dd. It took her a while to get used to the solids. I think alot of the spit up thing has to do with age sometimes. My dd is now almost ten months and hardly does it anymore. She started around 3 or 4 and stoped at about 7. I mixed a little dry rice cereal with her vegies and it seemed to help her.
