Ways to keep baby clean while eating??

I know I know babies are messy, but do you guys have any ways you use to minimize it? I sometimes think that a garbage bag over his head or one of those dog cones is the only way to keep the damage to a minimum.

Right now I use two bibs, one close to his neck and a bigger one that covers his shoulders. Between holding his hands, the food far aways from him, and a toy to entertain him/keep his attention, it's a messy production. The best way I like is when I put a big cloth/receiving blanket around his neck (as if he was getting a hair cut), but I don't have enough of them and I don't want to wash them everyday (I don't have THAT much laundry to do).

What do you guys do to minimize the mess?? thanks for sharing.

Unfortunalty, it's SUPPOSED to be messy! Thats the fun and thats how they learn.
You can't keep their hands out of their food for long and also they sometimes suck on their hands to help swallow food.
Just go with it, take a deep breath and get a dog, theyll clean up anything that falls on the floor.

Re: Ways to keep baby clean while eating??

I have some great bibs that have sleeves and are really long so they practically cover her whole body. It's kind of like a back to front jacket with just a velcro tab around the neck so very easy to slip on and off. The ones I have were given to us by a friend and they are towelling but I have seen the same design but in a plastic material so you just have to wipe it down rather than washing it.

Another suggestion....feed you baby wearing only a diaper! That way, when the meal is over you can go straight to the bathtub. :-) And you won't be getting a zillion bibs dirty.

Feed your baby while he is naked, in a kiddie pool, while pointing a garden hose at him.

JK. In all seriousness, feeding your child wearing only a diaper is the best way I know how to keep the mess to a minimum. That way you can wipe him clean with a wet rag afterward.
