Questions about Exesaucers - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

At what age can a baby go in the exesaucer? Do they need to be able to sit up by themselves? MY dd is 4 months and does not sit up by herself yet and I have been looking into them but I can't seem to find one that I like. I did register for the leap frog one but BRU no longer carries it.

What type do you other ladies use and what weight / age can it be used until?

They don't need to sit up by themselves to use it. As long as they have good head/neck control they can go in it. My ds started using his around 3 months old, at first I rolled a towel and placed it around him for extra support and once he got bigger and more in control of his legs and supporting himself I removed it. Ours is the Evenflo Ultrasaucer, we bought it for our DD when she was a baby. It is great. The base is kind of rounded so they can rock it back and forth, or you can place the supports down so it is stablized. The seat has 3 different height adjustments, swiveles to turn completely around and is spring loaded so they can jump up and down in it like a jolly jumper. And it has 9 different toys to play with, some for noise, some for music and some for chewing on. DD loved it right from the start, DS is now really liking it. He wasn't interested in it for more than 5 minutes at a time at first but now that he can turn and bounce and chew and make noise he likes it alot. I recommend going to a store (If you have Toys R Us go there) and testing out all the floor models on her, see which one she seems the most interested in. I honestly can't remember how long we used ours for with DD but I'm sure until close to a year old, once they start walking and especially climbing it isn't wise to use...but I'm sure the manual would give you height and weight recomendations.

We have the Kolcraft TinySteps 2-in-1 walker. It can be an exersaucer or a walker. We have a one story, large house, so I wanted her to be able to go wherever in it. We also have a giant circular driveway and spend tons of time outside, so it's ideal for us. You can easily lock the wheels so it doesn't move. As they begin cruising, you can remove the seat and they can push it around while holding on to a push bar. It has some toys attached and it also has a musical/lighted toy that is removable. When you take that out, it leaves a huge tray area with a cupholder. I LOVE this feature the most. I can easily rotate toys and give her drinks and snacks. The whole thing folds/lays flat, so we take it when we go visiting because feeding her in it with the tray is perfect!!

I had her in it from about 3 1/2 months, we'd prop her with a rolled up blanket. As long as they like it and have the head/neck control, they can be in them. She's 10 months now and we use it all the time.

DS was in it from the time he could hold his head up and loved it. On the other hand, I would not recommend getting the Leap Frog one. We had the Leap Frog bouncy seat and the electronics on the thing never worked right. I called there and they sent me a new one. But what made me really not like their stuff is when you call the number (which takes forever to find and is not on their products) they have options as to what toy you have that needs replacement parts. If their stuff falls apart that quickly . . . I do not think I am going to buy Leap Frog again. Personal opinion but just FYI.

I have the Evenflo Exersaucer. The box says for 4 months and up. I got it right at 4 months. It took her about a week to get used to it and not be so overwhelmed by all the stuff to do...not she loves it (5 months). As long as they can hold up their head, it will be good. I don't know how long she'll use it, but I think she'll be playing in this for quite a long time. Much longer than those floormat/mobile things.
