Worried at 2 week old son..

It sucks being a first time mommie, you don't know anything lol. Tuesday my son who is 2 weeks old began eating every two hours (he is formula fed). Now he's eating two ounces every two hours, sleeping alot more and he's started having more poopy diapers (which I think is from eating alot more and alot more often). He usually eats about 3 ounces every 3 to 4 hours and this sudden change has got me worried. Sometimes he'll he 3 ounces and not want to eat for another three hours..lastnight he ate 4 ounces and was happy for four hours. My question is, is it possible he's going through a growth spurt? He defintely is filling out his body ALOT more. We do have a dr's appt today to check on his weight (he was gaining weight to slowly so they have been watching him) so I'm going to ask the dr, but It'd help to put my mind to rest until the appt this afternoon. I'm just extremely worried! His wet diapers are normal, he's soaking those no problems but his poopy ones are liquidy w. some small cottage cheese size chunks (sorry tmi!). Thanks ladies, I know you've all been through the first time mommie worries before

Re: Worried at 2 week old son..

Congratulations! He sounds absolutely normal to me! They grow SO much the first year and eating habits will change accordingly. Weeks 2 to 6 or so will show you many many changes. They can sleep longer, eat more, have more fussy times, etc. The best advice I have for you is get in to a set routine/schedule as soon as possible. The baby will like it and so will you. Leave yourself plenty of wiggle room though to face those growth spurts and fussy times. Go with your instincts, take any help that's offered to you and keep yourself healthy and as well rested as possible.

Most of all have fun and love every second, it goes by very quickly.

Sounds normal to me too! It's hard to remember how much DS was eating then, but he started to eat more around there too. I think it's because he really started to "wake up" around then. He still slept alot, at least compared to now but around then he definitely had more wakeful times then the two weeks prior. The chunky poo is normal too. lol

Has he always had liquidy diapers? Are they greasy looking and smell really bad? If so and he's not gaining any weight, then you may want to mention it to your doctor.

Re: Worried at 2 week old son..

THanks ladies! You help me relax alot lol. We are getting ready for his appointment so I'm still going to bring it up, just in case! I just got done talking to my midwifes nurse (setting up 6 week appt..ahh) and she said it's normal too.

Btw, it isn't greasy or anything. It smells alittle (like poo!) and he's definetly gainging weight. I was worried about possible diaherria (I think that's what you are heading for) but doesn't look like it!

Thanks again ladies! I thought I was set into a routine with my little man until this week! Guess I'll have to get use to the suprises that come along
