Dialated Kidney Question - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

Ds's only health concern is that he was shown to have a dialated kidney in his 24 week in-utero ultrasound. He is now 6 months old and although the kidney doesn't cause him any problems, it hasn't improved either. We have now been reffered to a urologist just to check on it. It's not getting worse on him but not better either. It doesn't appear to be a blockage or anything like that, it's just mildly large the ped said. Has anyone with a DS/DD had a kidney clear up after birth? If so, how long did a take?

Celestine- My sister had that ( she's now 3) and she also had no change for a while. She had to see a ped. urologist, but just recently, they told my dad it had cleared up, and she's perfectly fine! She also had a cathater once to check the progress, but no real procedures, just monitering. Good luck , I'll ask my father for more info if you wish..........

Oh thank you Dizzygirl for saying that! We were told to watch for infections but nothing more than that yet. His plumbing seems to be working so I don't think they're too concerned about it yet. When anything goes wrong with the little ones it's so hard not to get worried about it.

Oh I know! Katie ( my sister) did have 1 kidney infection when she was about 1, but it was treated with antibiotics, and never came back. She just went for her last check up with the urologist a few weeks ago, and told her that she would not need to be checked again. I hope your little one is the same, I'm sure he will be just fine.
