Food processor - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

IDK if I spelled that right but...yea...Has anyone used a food processor to feed your babies, my little one is almost 6 months, and wont eat Jar food, and Im not gonna force him, If I do he will hate it more, He eats pears but thats it...Im told its fine to feed him most of what we eat if we use the processor...any suggestions

When DS was 6 months old his doctor told us to feed him whatever we were eating - just mush it up. He wanted him to have more fat, something regular baby food doesn't have much of. Not to use a blender 'cuz most people don't clean them all that well I bought a little baby food grinder with a case (like a lunch box) and I used that to grind up chicken ala king, tuna hot dish, beef stew, mac & cheese. I also have a tiny, 1/2 cup food chopper/processor that I got as a wedding gift that works great, too. The only problem with DS is that he had texture issues and hated ground beef and a few other things, it'd make him gag.

I'm thinking of starting to offer my ds some of our food too...he eats the jar food but I want him to experience other textures. People have suggested using a blender..what if I put it in the dishwasher after every use? Or do you think I should get those baby food grinders?

I've been making some of DS's food and freezing it and I use both a blender and a food processor. The food processor I have is rather big and it works well for some things, or if I have alot of stuff at one time but with other foods or smaller portions it doesn't always get things mushy enough. That's where the blender comes in. I think a blender is alright as long as you remember to take it all apart and make sure there's no food hiding in the little crevices. I ended up having to do some experimenting with both of them to know which is better for what foods. I've never used a baby mill so I don't know if that would be any better than the other two.

I use the hand mill, but I don't find it works good for tougher things. Like peas, beans, corn...anything with a shell. Also, if you're doing a lot at once, it gets pretty tedious as you can only fit a bit in at a time. I think maybe I have a bad blender, but I've tried it, and it won't puree the food. It just sits there in a lump! Maybe I should try a processor???
