Rolling Over? - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

DS is 7 weeks opld today. When do they roll over typically? I went to check on him during his nap and he was up fully on his side sleeping! I put him on his back!

my little guy could go from his back to his side or belly to side as soon as he was born, or should i say, as soon as he came home and wasnt swaddled, he hated bein wrapped up tight like that, i know everyone says its a no no, but he slept on his belly from two weeks on, he is now a little over 7 months

My baby is a late bloomer, she started about a couple weeks ago, but still has trouble sometimes turning over.

my ds started rolling when we got home from the hospital, did it til about 1 month old, then didn't do it again til 3-4 months

I would let them sleep the way they want to sleep and sleep best. First, the risk of SIDS is less than 1 in 1000 for a newborn tummy sleeper and about 1 in 1500 for a newborn back sleeper. Second, once they are strong enough to roll over the already low risk of SIDS drops even further. They sleep much better that way too (most babies do anyway).
