11 week old sleeping too much?

I am wondering if he is sleeping too much? He usually goes down to bed at 10:30-11:00 pm...sleeps through until 6AM when he wakes to feed, then back down to sleep until around 9:30-10:00am. He then gets up to eat again and he is yawning by 12:00. He takes a 1-2 hour nap then he is up again until around 3-4pm..then back down AGAIN for a long nap of 2-3 hours. He akes around 7ish and we go for 2mile walk..then back home to eat and hit the sack around 9:30...

Is this normal to sleep so much?

Re: 11 week old sleeping too much?

Yup, totally normal. They say that babies this age should sleep 15-18 hours a day, but most babies only 12, which is on the low side. It's good for the development, because a well rested and alert baby is able to aborb more then one who is over tired and cranky.

People always tell me (because I have a reistant napper) that "she'll sleep when she's tired". If I followed that train of thought she'd only sleep 10 hours a day and NOT nap at all. She rubs her eyes, yawns, and fusses until she finally conks out, and it has been known for me to spend more time getting her to sleep then she spends sleeping, BUT, little babies need to sleep.. even if they fight it.

But I gotta say - TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EVERY MINUTE!! LOL! I would kill for Ava to sleep like that. I only get anything done if I'm wearing her because she will not nap on her own to save my soul these days.

I agree, let sleeping babies lie, lol. In a few months, you'll probably be saying, ah remember when he used to sleep so much. Those were the days! Seriously though, as pp said, perfectly normal, enjoy it.

Re: 11 week old sleeping too much?

My DD was exactly like that, she could only be awake for 30 mins before rubbing her eyes and grizzling... she is now 5 1/2 months old and stays awake for longer now, its more like 1-1.5 hours. She will dictate her new routine to you so don't worry if you seem to always be putting her back to bed. It sounds like you've got your finger on the pulse of her sleepy times
