Climbing out/falling out of the crib

I'm curious at what age your babies were when you started having concerns that baby might (or actually did) climb or fall out if the crib?

I'm lowering the mattress today to be on the proactive side, but DD is 9 months + 1 week and still hasn't made any moves to show me she's figuring out she could probably do this. She can pull herself up from sitting to standing on furniture, crawl/scoot, and cruise...but when in her crib, she stays on her back or side and acts like she's helpless in there.

Just curious.

Re: Climbing out/falling out of the crib

my ds will be 9 mths on the 27th and we had to lower his mattress months ago because he started pulling up and trying to hang from the side. Even with it lower he acts like he wants to jump out. I've heard stories all my life how I used to jump out of my crib all the time so I guess he got it from me. hehe

it is scary though.

Re: Climbing out/falling out of the crib

Hi Gayle sounds like your dd is really mellow. My dd is mellow too. she is not quite 5 months and doesn't yell out to me - or laugh really loud etc. - like I have seen other kids her age do or younger.... she gabs it up - and laughs really quiet or a silenced OPEN mouth big grin! very cute!

She is just mellow - not interested in rolling over - but is very interested in sitting on her own (alittle support still needed) and crawling rather than rolling over.

Re: Climbing out/falling out of the crib

My DS started pulling up like that at around 7 months. That's when we lowered it. He started walking at 9 months, and will be 12 months on the 27th. So far he hasn't tried to climb out....thank goodness! I have concerns about it happening, and I hear about it all the time.
