Help with diaper changes - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

Does anyone have any advice for changing a 1 year olds diaper? It is a constant struggle because he does not want to lie on his back. I have tried changing him in the living room, kitchen, dining room, just about every room in the house. I have tried distracting him with toys, keys, brooms, about everything. I have even tried just changing him standing up, that got a little too messy. Any advice?

We had to make a game out it! We do the "10 second diaper change" or I make really funny sound effects with everything I do. It keeps him giggling and wanting more. We tried all the distraction methods but none of them work. He flips over as soon as you lay him down and when you take off the diaper he thinks it's funny to grab for his pee-pee and get up..... so frustrating! It doesn't get any better either!? Our ds is 2 in a little over a week and we still have to play these games with the diaper changes...

Is there something in your house that your DS wants to play with but you always say no to? This is what I use to change DS's diaper. He plays with the phone or camera, he loves things with buttons. So we have "toys" that are just for the changing table.

DD is 9 months old and she has started doing the same thing.

I'm doing what 2fast4u does...I'll give DD my cell phone or the tv remote. Things she really wants but doesn't get. That works for me about 95% of the time now. The other 5% is a free for all...whatever it takes just to get it done.

I know the standing ones are difficult but we resorted to the easy ups for a while. They are for active one year olds who don't stay put. the only down side to these are if they poo they don't tape so you can't seal them. Otherwise they start in size 3 and go on like a pull up.
