Alternating Tylenol and Motrin - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

I have heard to alternate motrin and tylenol with infants. Can someone tell me what the reason is. Does it work better that way? DS is teething and most days I don't give him anything and he does great and then there might be one day or night where he needs something. Thanks alot!

Usually you alternate tylenol and motrin to regulate fever. My daughter when she runs fever,runs close to 104 almost everytime. It can just be an ear infection and she will still run that high. I have to alternate to keep it down, but I have never heard of alternating it just for teething.

One is acetiminophen and the other ibuprophen.... I believe so alternating every 4 hours gives an 8 hour lapse in between of each medication - and helps with teething - sore/swollen gums etc. and will help with fever ....

I do it - only when she is really bad and starts to do the moan cry....

Baby needs to be 6+ months for Motrin.

I use both when the fever is very high. I've not used it for teething. I stick to Hyland's Teething Tablets to help with that issue.
