making own baby food - help? - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

ok i just spent all afternoon making baby purees with veggies. i mixed the veggies in the blender with formula. then i froze them all.

is it ok to do this only someone just told me i will have to throw it all out because i can't freeze formula.
is this true?
please tell me it is not

i really don't want to throw the afternoons work away i made so much

Nope, can't freeze formula. Sorry. *If* I decide to make transitional food I'll freeze it neither thinned nor thickened, as the breastmilk/formula should be in its freshest form for digestion. Breastmilk becomes altered when frozen, and when feeding solids you really need to keep everything as simple as possible. Plus the fat aids in absorption of nutrients, and fat does not freeze without becoming molecularly damaged in some way, hence the reason you should only use fresh BM.

I honestly cannot remember why formula shouldn't frozen, but for the reason I stated above (needing fat to absorb nutrients) I would suggest using only fresh.

Weepy...I am feeling for you right now. I spent the better part of saturday morning roasting chicken breast and sweet potatoes (both things she's had and likes in the jarred food). I pureed it up with water as a thinner. I did my very best to make it the same texture as the jarred food. I even taste tested and compared. The chicken had a slightly different flavor because I didn't use dark meat, but I really couldn't tell the difference with the sweet potatoes (taste or texture). I made up a whole bunch and froze it all in individual containers.

Well, I fed her the chicken for lunch, and she threw up after only a few bites. Thinking maybe she just didn't like the chicken, I tried to give her the sweet potatoes for dinner (after having a full 8 oz bottle of formula shortly before...) an she BARFED again! I don't know what she doesn't like about it, but I am hoping I didn't do all that work for nothing!!!

My little baby doesn't like my cooking, ALREADY!!!

make sure when you are reheating your chicken dish that it is piping hot... then... cooled to baby temperature. You have to be so careful when reheating chicken.

Why dont you try making the veggies at the moment? I mean if she eats at say 1pm, make them at 12 midday. We do this with my son, we cook up the pumkin or sweet potatoe or any meat he will be eating for lunch and give it to him fresh. How old is your baby?

My boy is a year old so its a bit easier since the vegetables and meat can be a bit chunkier
