Doesn't want to be put down?!

My ds just started to get a tooth and has been very cranky. Lately when I go to put him down on the floor to play or in his swing to nap, he will scream and cry. All he wants is me to hold him. I don't mind holding him, I love being close to him but even when I need to use the bathroom, I have to either ask dh to hold him (if he's around, he's been working alot) or my grandmother whom lives with us and he still throws a little fit. Do you think he's either uncomfortable with teething or he's missing his father terribly? When dh is around he isn't like this. At night he is bc his teeth hurt more at night then any other time but it's getting very tiring. Dh just left for an overnight at the beach with his father and sister (his sister is only here for the summer and leaves in a few days) and of course ds started to throw a fit the minute he left. Anyone else experince this and if so, do you have any advice? He is five months old and I have terribly seperation anxitey, do you think at such a young age, he could already have it?! Thanks ladies!

Re: Doesn't want to be put down?!

hi
strrange you should say his ds is starting to nuzzle his face in my neck when other people come to talk to him sam is almost five months. i am fiding he likes to be best settled by myself. i wonder though if your little one just settles with daddy because he picks up on your stress. i say stress because i know some days come daddy comming home i am beat from his crying over his teething and then daddy settles him better. just a thought. also these teeth are doing my head in i feel so sorry for ds and those naughty toothy pegs. also when my dh is working away the crying stresses me more because i can't have any respite by giving ds to dh i wonder if this is the case for you to. good luck ds never cried as much as the last few weeks thank god for teething gel cuddles and pacifiers

Re: Doesn't want to be put down?!

Never thought about the stress. I've been under SO much stress lately. I never thought about ds sensing it and feeling the need to be held by me 24/7! Yes and when I do give him to dh he does calm down, cause you know I don't think dh ever gets stessed out! LOL. Thanks for that idea weepy, it didn't even come to mind!

Re: Doesn't want to be put down?!

My son is 13 months old and I went through this with all 11 teeth! I have been dealing with this for the past month because since he has gotten 3 molars since his first birthday. I always know he is getting a tooth by the way he clings to my leg, shoulder, back-anything he can get his hands on. I think the teething tablets work well because it temporarily take his mind off of it. I have also found that if I get my mother(she also live with us) to take him when he is preoccupied he hardly notices that I have stepped out to do whatever! I dont really know about the timeline because every baby ages differently but I think 5 months is a little young to have seperation axiety. I hope that it is just a tooth popping through so you can get some rest!

Re: Doesn't want to be put down?!

I'm going with the idea it is probably the teeth too. DS is 10 1/2 months and just got his first tooth. He is normally very happy and has never really had separation anxiety unless there's too many strangers around but for the week or so when the teeth were coming, before they cut the skin, he would cry the second he saw me leave the room. I couldn't even go down the hall to use the bathroom without him crying. Big tears and everything. If I popped back into sight he was fine. Popped out and he cried again. For him at least it went away right after the teeth came out of the gums. He's back to normal until the next ones thank goodness. Hopefully your son does the same thing.
