The nice thing about the sling, is that it wraps them up tight, like swaddling them, so they feel all snuggly like they're in the womb. I found when Ava got fussy I would put her in the sling and she'd pass out. She loved it. I've been carrying her in it a few hours a day ever since I got it, I don't know what I'd do without it. And when I didn't want to wear her anymore I lean over the bed, slowly loosen the rings and lift it over my head, and voila she's asleep, and would STAY asleep.
A ring sling, if you don't know, is a soft baby carrier. They originated in South America as a piece of fabric tied around the mother with her baby wrapped inside, but now you can buy them with rings that make it easier to tighten. I like them way better then conventional baby carries because there are tons of ways to wear them - on the hips, the back, inside facing, outside facing, etc. My DD is 4 months old now and she rides on my back. Plus, you can nurse in them too, which is REALLY handy when they're fussy. Go for a walk with a boob and you'll have one sleepy baby!!
If you google "baby ring sling" you'll see what I'm talkng about.
