Hiccups - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

Just a quick question...

My friend's son is now 10 days old and is breast fed. However, he always seems to have the hiccups.

Does anyone here have any experience with this? It seemed strange to me that he always has hiccups as I thought hiccups were the result of swallowing air, but if he's breastfed, then that does not jive.

She asked me my opinion as I breastfed my daughter, but for the life of me i cannot recall if my daughter had hiccups alot as she is now almost 7! lol

It's very normal for babies to get hiccups. My son is 6 months old and he had hiccups from 22 weeks in the womb (of course thats when I could feel them) to me pushing him out and to this day he STILL has them. There is no need to worry, it's completely normal. And if you ask an elderly lady she would so "Ohh he must be growing!" They think if a baby has hiccups that means they are growing, how cute! LOL.

lol mj. i have had things like that said to me. yes it is normal or at least ds seemed to have lots of hiccups it worried me too till i found out everyone i know with babys had the same issue. ds was initially bf and ff

My dd used to get hiccups all the time, (I BFed and FFed her) especially after feeding and ALWAYS after laughing. Apparently it can also be a sign of reflux which my daughter suffers a bit from. Now she just gets hiccups after laughing... very cute

she is 8 1/2 months old

Remember that babies do get wind when BFing too.... whoever tells you differently probably just doesn't have a windy baby. I had to have burping sessions between breasts and sometimes halfway through one breast she would bring her knees up.
